How to Add a Watermark to Photos Online — Protect Your Work
Sharing your work online without a watermark risks others using it without credit or payment. A professional watermark takes 30 seconds to add and protects every image you share.
Add Watermark Free →Text vs image watermarks — which to use?
Text watermarks are ideal for most use cases. Include your name, website, or Instagram handle. Simple, fast, and universally readable.
Image watermarks (your logo) look more professional and reinforce branding. Use a PNG with a transparent background for the best result.
Watermark positioning tips
- Bottom-right corner: The most common position. Visible but not intrusive
- Centre at 10–20% opacity: Harder to crop out, but affects the viewing experience. Use only for high-value work you want to protect strongly
- Multiple watermarks: A grid of watermarks across the image is the most effective protection but least professional looking
Opacity settings
- 30–40% opacity: Clearly visible, professional-looking
- 15–25% opacity: Subtle, for presentation portfolios where you still want the image to look clean
- 50–70% opacity: Maximum protection for high-value images shared in public galleries
Before sharing client previews
Always watermark client work before sharing mockups or previews. Clients sometimes share previews internally before payment is complete. A watermark ensures work cannot be used without your permission.
Can watermarks be removed?
A corner watermark can be cropped. A semi-transparent watermark covering the image is much harder to remove. For maximum protection, cover the central subject area of the image with a semi-transparent watermark.
